Hi
I recently bought a 1989 300E 24V coupe in black, what a car...but I went abroad for a calendar week and came dorsum and it now wont run. The final time I used it it seemed to misfire occasionally simply now information technology starts briefly then dies, like its run out of fuel although theres fuel in it.
I bought the car as a projection and every bit still oasis't had take a chance to do annihilation under the bonnet so no components take been changed recently.
Cheers

UPDATE
Changed the 10 amp fuse near the battery, not sure what its for but it had blown and it started and ran for about 5 mins then stopped...now wont get-go at all??
This is a scrap more complicated than mending a marking 2 escort methinks

I've heard of this issue on these 24v engines, mines misfiring aswell and idling really high. It's something to do with a sensor I think. Somebody volition pin indicate it for y'all on here though.

help

After it stops check if its fireing. Pull off a plug lead pop in an one-time plug ,hold it for a brusk timre by earth point ,watch information technology equally it pushes a few volts enough to kill you .So apply a prophylactic glove .Did information technology spark. If non then its electrical. If it did spark its fuel trouble Then remove the metal pipe thats on the side of the fuel distributor ,cover it with a rag then petrol wont run over the engine. Now spin it over .
Did you have fuel. If not, so you pumps not running . Check and come up back.

I think Gunning is referring to the crank position sensor. The automobile typically Ned's to warm up earlier the cutting out happens. I have besides seen a split breather pipe which caused a similar trouble. Would tick over in a very lumpy fashion and would cut out equally soon equally information technology as put in gear. A bit of record was plenty to cure the trouble until a new pipe was fitted.

good

Thank you merely you must eliminate 1 thing at a fourth dimension .
1 spark
2 fuel delivery.
Then go from there. When it stops try one or the other.

The fuel pump relay on these is 2 stage. 1- priming-- on ignition switch on the relay supplies power to the pump to prime the system. Stage ii --the relay requires an engine running signal to go along to supply power to the fuel pump. Sounds as if you might have a faulty fuel pump relay or its not getting the engine running bespeak. They tin can sometimes be mended past removing the relay can and remelting the solder on the small-scale printed circuit board inside to get rid of any dry out joints due to vibration over the years. If its the elementary small relay then fine- if its the larger ane then you are in problem as they are hard to repair/ expensive to replace. lots of info on fuel pump relays on the forum.

Information technology does sound similar a fuel problem. The car probably has ii fuel pumps and a filter under the rear of the auto. Information technology volition accept an EZL ignition module under the bonnet, a benefactor and a single coil. All pretty straightforward

Do the bones tests first. Faults on these cars are pretty predictable - bad benefactor caps & rotor artillery, fuel pump relays, blocked fuel filters, bad EZL module and bad CPS
